Georgia vs Tenessee game was exciting

Georgia and Tennessee game full of surprises and excitement

You know as it turned out I think I made a pretty good choice on the Georgia – Tennessee game. Even though they were down by 2 touchdowns, near the end of the first quarter, they made up for it in the second.

By the end of the half when they took their break they had put themselves back in the game and went to the half with a tied game of 30 all.

I honestly wanted to switch over to the Florda State game that started at 6:00 pm but I am glad I didn’t because this game was full of surprises and edge of your seat plays.

It stayed exciting right up until the end and even though Tennessee was down by one touchdown and were out of time outs they did manage to get one final posession with under a minute to go. They just couldn’t quite convert that though and in what was appearing to be the next to last play of the game Tyler Bray had a pass tipped that was intercepted.

Even though Tennessee lost to Georgia 44 to 51, they have improved their game and did a good job against the bulldog defense.

Glad I stayed on this channel and thoroughly enjoyed the game although it was the first college game I have watched this season.

Long Term effects of injuries from playing football

Long term effects of playing football lead to lawsuit

For many years football equipment manufacturers have been making improvements in their gear such as shoulder pads and helmets in an effort to reduce injuries.

It’s no secret that the hits a football player endures during an average game can be brutal. In fact it is these same hits that fans want to see and even cheer for.

Think about it, during a play if you are rooting for the defense, you want to see them sack the quarterback, or tackle the reciever. Now you may not be hoping that the quarterback also sustains a concussion from that sack, but it is clearly one of the possible scenarios from that play.

In fact the NFL acknowledged that there could be long term effects of concussions suffered by players and that they would support further research into it. The Center 4 Research has some study information here in this article.

Just this week, Jim McMahon, formerly of the Chicago Bears has stated he would likely have played baseball instead of football had he known more about the long term effects of being hit so hard and so many times over his carreer.

McMahon has come forward publicly since he wants to raise more awareness about the problem. He has recently admitted to suffering from eary-stage dimentia and what led to his comment about wishing he had played baseball instead.

Some players are fighting things such as dementia, memory loss and other effects. In fact a number of NFL players have recently joined in a lawsuit against the league. The lawsuit has made a number of claims, one of which is that the league hid the dangers and long term effects of injuries.

Now I am not saying that the NFL knew about it or that they hid this from the players, but it certainly does raise more questions.

More than 2400 former players are reported to be plaintiffs in the suit and whether it will turn out to have a policy changing effect remains to be seen. Clearly this will raise more awareness on the risks of injuries and possibly give both players and their parents more information and research into helping them decide whether their own children will persue such a career.

Best entertainment of the Georgia vs Tennessee game so far

Mayhem commercial more entertaining then Georgia vs Tennessee game

I must admit to being a big fan of the Mayhem commercials that Alstate has put out. They are funny and do a pretty good job of getting a point accross.

They cover things like paying attention while driving, why texting while driving is bad, and how personal things and stresses can affect one’s focus while driving and how that can be dangerous.

Well today I saw for the first time the commercial where Mayhem (played by Dean Winters), where he is a school team flag that comes off the vehicle and lands on another vehicle’s windsheild and causes an accident.

I commend Allstate for having some downright entertaining and thought provoking ads.  Don’t text and drive, pay attention while being behind the wheel, and by all means, watch out for Mayehm.

College Football games 9-29-12

Pro football fan decides to watch college football discover choices are plenty

Although I am much more of an NFL fan than college football, and since I had some web work to get done from home today I figured it was a good opportunity for me to get caught up a little on the college games.

It’s also good to remember that the NCAA stars in school today will be the players on the professional teams of tomorrow.

The fact that there are so many more games makes it more difficult for a football fan to pick which games to watch. It almost makes me want to put a second tv in the living room so I can watch at least 2 games at once, no I don’t particularly care for split screen watching.

It appears that the Ole Miss at Alabama game will the one of the hot games of the night, I personally am more interested in watching the Florida State at USF game in Tampa. That game is at 6:00 pm.

For the afternoon games, I have decided to watch the Tennessee Volunteers game playing the Bulldogs of Georgia. That game is in Tennessee and the Bulldogs have won 8 of the last 12 games between these two teams.

Baltimore Ravens win over Cleveland Browns week 4 2012

Baltimore Ravens chalk up a win over Cleveland Browns week 4

Outstanding effort by Brandon Weeden of the Cleveland Browns.

Even though they did not win the game, this quarterback did a good job of reading the Raven defense and compensated properly.

Don’t forget that he is only a rookie and this is his first year in the NFL. He was the 22nd overall in the draft and played for Oklahoma State.

In this game against Baltimore, late in the 4th quarter with very little time left on the clock, and down by one touchdown, he kept his head and stayed focused right up until the end of the game. That is often not seen in a first year quarterback.

He is already showing that he will be a quarterback to keep an eye on and is working the pocket like a veteran. As he gains more experience and improves he certainly has the potential to be a great quarterback.

Baltimore won 23 to 16 over the Browns.

The NFL Official’s strike is over

Football Fans around the World are glad the Official’s Strike is Over!

Well the NFL Official’s strike is finally over. And at the Cleveland – Baltimore game, thought to be the very first time in NFL history, the officials came on to the field to a standing ovation.

That really says something, not only about the job they do, but how important this was to the fans of the game.

I think league leaders and team owners need to keep that in mind when they sit down and consider the consessions they may have given to make this deal happen.

In the last few weeks it had become very clear how important a resolution to this strike was, and how much most officials working really knew what they were doing, and how hard their job really was.

Sure we can sit back watching a game and catch a call we felt one of them may have missed or that we disagreed with, but these guys are out there every week for hours calling these games.

No single player on offense or defense plays every down, but the officials do. And have you ever watched how much these guys have to run? How many times have you seen a ref running for 40 yards, or more, BACKWARDS, and still make the call?

Are some of them going to make a mistake this year? Probably and it would be silly to even think that it isn’t possible. But I for one am very glad they are back at work, and I also have gained a bit more respect for them then I had last year.

And I think that they truly earned that respect. Congratulations.

New football schedule means more games on more days which means more football for fans

I really think I like the new NFL schedule. I like the fact that during football season we have less nights without a game each week.

We spend a few days going back over the standings from the weekends games and before you know it, it’s Thursday and time for another game.

Then on Friday and Saturday you review the game from Thursday and how it affected standings, and for those that are also college football fans there are games on Saturday and then there you are back to Sunday and more games.

So we end up with more footall on more days.

So, relax, grab a beer or your favorite beverage and enjoy the Thursday night game. Tonight it’s Celevland vs Baltimore.

University of Minnesota logo on 45 yard line

Volunteer students at University of Minnesota paint school logo on 45 yard line

University of Minnesota logo mistakeNo they didn’t move the stands at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, but if you had seats on the 50 yard line for a college football game there you might think so.

Volunteer students that painted the “M” logo on the football field mistakenly painted it centered on the 45 yard line instead of the 50. Since the logo was painted before the yard numbers were in place, no one noticed it until it was too late.

Since they won their first game of the season against Southwest Minnesota 33-28, some superstitious fans have been requesting they keep it that way. As of this writing I haven’t been able to find official word on whether the Golden Eagles will keep the logo on the 45.

I think the most humorous comment about this I have seen so far was that the “NFL replacement refs had no problem with the paint job.”

Seattle vs Green Bay week 3 final

The complaints of questionable calls and outright bad calls by the officials during NFL games is becoming quite a bit more than just sour grapes by fans.

If it was just here or there you could pass it off as a fan wanting to see a failed execution on a play so bad that they might actually believe they saw something they didn’t. But it is more than that.

Since the regular season started, almost every single game has seen complaints of calls that just were not right. This complaints are not just coming from fans, but also players, coaching staff and even the commentators and other sports reporters.

The end of this game is another good example of calls that will be questioned and second guessed. The final play of the game with no time outs left Seattle had no choice but top go for the hail mary play and a touchdown pass attempt.

Even though the replays appeared to show that Jennings of the defense had his hands on the ball first and had apparently intercepted the ball, an official on the field ruled the play a touchdown. Even though the officials looked at the replays again since it was a score, the ruling from the field stood.

It will be interesting to see the backlash from additions postings and controversy over this game ender. The commentators are using words like bizzare, embarrassing, terrible, sad, and others and although they are not in total agreement on each call, more than just a few are saying that it was a bad call and did in fact cost the game for Green Bay.

Additionally, it will be interesting to see an official comment from the league about this, if one is forthcoming.

The official final score in this game was Seattle 14 Green Bay 12.

Green Bay back in the game vs Seattle week 3

Well Rodgers did a better job during the second half. I think it was the second posession of the third quarter by Green Bay that Rodgers sped up the tempo and made many more no huddle plays and managed to throw the Seattle defense off balance more.

In fact if you look at that drive I think it’s the reason we will see a bit more of this. It reduces the amount of substitutions by the defense and in some cases, such as this particular drive, Seattle had to use a time out in order to complete one of their substitutions or to keep from earning a penalty for too many men on the field.

Although Green Bay did not get a touchdown on this drive, they did manage to get into field goal postion and made it a one point game. Score is currently Green Bay 6 Seattle 7.
