Cleveland Browns vs Baltimore Ravens week 4 2012

New football schedule means more games on more days which means more football for fans

I really think I like the new NFL schedule. I like the fact that during football season we have less nights without a game each week.

We spend a few days going back over the standings from the weekends games and before you know it, it’s Thursday and time for another game.

Then on Friday and Saturday you review the game from Thursday and how it affected standings, and for those that are also college football fans there are games on Saturday and then there you are back to Sunday and more games.

So we end up with more footall on more days.

So, relax, grab a beer or your favorite beverage and enjoy the Thursday night game. Tonight it’s Celevland vs Baltimore.

University of Minnesota logo on 45 yard line

Volunteer students at University of Minnesota paint school logo on 45 yard line

University of Minnesota logo mistakeNo they didn’t move the stands at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, but if you had seats on the 50 yard line for a college football game there you might think so.

Volunteer students that painted the “M” logo on the football field mistakenly painted it centered on the 45 yard line instead of the 50. Since the logo was painted before the yard numbers were in place, no one noticed it until it was too late.

Since they won their first game of the season against Southwest Minnesota 33-28, some superstitious fans have been requesting they keep it that way. As of this writing I haven’t been able to find official word on whether the Golden Eagles will keep the logo on the 45.

I think the most humorous comment about this I have seen so far was that the “NFL replacement refs had no problem with the paint job.”

Seattle vs Green Bay week 3 final

The complaints of questionable calls and outright bad calls by the officials during NFL games is becoming quite a bit more than just sour grapes by fans.

If it was just here or there you could pass it off as a fan wanting to see a failed execution on a play so bad that they might actually believe they saw something they didn’t. But it is more than that.

Since the regular season started, almost every single game has seen complaints of calls that just were not right. This complaints are not just coming from fans, but also players, coaching staff and even the commentators and other sports reporters.

The end of this game is another good example of calls that will be questioned and second guessed. The final play of the game with no time outs left Seattle had no choice but top go for the hail mary play and a touchdown pass attempt.

Even though the replays appeared to show that Jennings of the defense had his hands on the ball first and had apparently intercepted the ball, an official on the field ruled the play a touchdown. Even though the officials looked at the replays again since it was a score, the ruling from the field stood.

It will be interesting to see the backlash from additions postings and controversy over this game ender. The commentators are using words like bizzare, embarrassing, terrible, sad, and others and although they are not in total agreement on each call, more than just a few are saying that it was a bad call and did in fact cost the game for Green Bay.

Additionally, it will be interesting to see an official comment from the league about this, if one is forthcoming.

The official final score in this game was Seattle 14 Green Bay 12.

Green Bay back in the game vs Seattle week 3

Well Rodgers did a better job during the second half. I think it was the second posession of the third quarter by Green Bay that Rodgers sped up the tempo and made many more no huddle plays and managed to throw the Seattle defense off balance more.

In fact if you look at that drive I think it’s the reason we will see a bit more of this. It reduces the amount of substitutions by the defense and in some cases, such as this particular drive, Seattle had to use a time out in order to complete one of their substitutions or to keep from earning a penalty for too many men on the field.

Although Green Bay did not get a touchdown on this drive, they did manage to get into field goal postion and made it a one point game. Score is currently Green Bay 6 Seattle 7.

Seattle vs Green Bay week 3 halftime

Unbelieveable, but it’s only half time in the Seattle game. It’s the Seattle Seahawks against the Green Bay Packers on 09-24-12. The unusual part is that Arron Rodgers has been sacked 8 times already!

When the game started I was really pulling for Green Bay, but the Seahawks defense has been extremely effective in shutting down Rodgers. Whether they can keep it up in the second half remains to be seen.

New England vs Baltimore week 3

By now most of you reading this post will have already heard that the New England Patriots lost to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday 09-23-12 with a score 31 to 30.

Another game that had a number of mishaps (some say bad calls) by those officiating the game. I don’t want to pass judgement on the replacement officials since I can’t claim that I would do better, (even though on some calls I might have) and it’s easy for us watching the replays to say things like “That was a bad call etc”.

It is my sincere hope that the league will get the contract dispute settled, although some sources say that it is currently getting no where. I just want to get back to enjoying the game more, and with all these distractions with the officials it is taking a bit of enjoyment away from the game.

The game was mostly a lot of fun to watch and I was impressed with the resolve and professionalism of Torrey Smith who had only learned of his younger brother passing away just earlier that day. Way to go Torrey for scoring 2 touchdowns on such a day and may you and your family recieve comfort.

More and more this season we are seeing quarterbacks be given a little more freedom on the fieild and a number of them are honing their skills and doing a good job of calling audbles at the line and converting well on the no-huddle plays. Tom Brady of New England is one such quarterback and in fact at one point during the second half it really did appear that Brady would be successful and take the Patriots to victory but such was not the case.

All in all though a good game.

Don’t forget about this week’s upcoming games

Don’t forget about this week’s upcoming games.

One of the hot games on Sunday is gonna be the Patriot game. As of the time of this writing Bet Online has them at +2.5 against the Ravens.

I am actually more interested to see how Peyton Manning does after a poor start last week and whether he can keep the rythym going that he had in the second half of the game against the Falcons.

Atlanta vs Denver in week 2

Unbelievable how rocky of a start Peyton Manning and Denver had during the first half of this game. I can’t remember how long it has been since I watched a game that had 3 interceptions in a single quarter and the fact that all 3 turnovers were interceptions that Manning threw just makes it that much more rare.

In fact at the half Denver had turned the ball over 4 times, 3 from interceptions and one fumble.

Denver was able to improve their game greatly during the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough and Atlanta came out with the win. The final score was Atlanta 27 Denver 21.

You gotta give the Atlanta defense a lot of credit since they kept Manning and the rest of the Bronco defense on their toes which could be seen in the many audibles and changes Manning called before the snap.

Tampa vs NY in week 2

Rarely do I post in the middle of a game but the Buc’s game has me on the edge of my seat.

I honestly thought the game was close to decided mid way through the 3rd quarter but I could not have been more wrong.

Throughout the first part of the game NY was just not able to capitalize on 3rd down conversions, especially in their own territory. That changed toward the end of the third quarter and by the fourth the Giants were back in the game.

This certainly turned things around and made the fourth quarter quite exciting.

Although thew Bucs got the ball back with only 31 seconds left in the game, Eli Manning was doing a good job of moving the ball down the field and getting the clock stopped, but the interception he threw in the last play sewed it up and gave NY their first win of the season. Final score was 41 to 34 with the Giants on top.

Week 2 of 2012 season

Hey don’t forget that it is the second week of regular season and there is a lot of football action this weekend. There is a lot of excitement surrounding some of the games on Sunday the 16th of September.

Will it be the Bucs over the Giants? Can the Redskins defeat the Rams?
